ONION SAMBHAR Recipe
INGREDIENTS
½ cup tur dal
1 cup madras onions or 3 medium sized onion, sliced
1 cup tamarind juice
A pinch of turmeric powder
A pinch of asafetida
1 tsp curry leaves
1 tsp coriander leaves
¼ tsp salt.
For Roasting
½ tsp chana dal
1 tsp coriander seeds
¼ tsp fenugreek seeds
3 red chillis
Grind to a paste
1 onion, sliced
1 tomato
1 tsp coriander leaves
1 tsp freshly grated coconut
For Seasoning
½ tsp ghee or oil
½ tsp urad dal
½ tsp mustard seeds
METHOD
1. Roast the dal and pressure cook, along with the required quantity of
water.
2. Roast all the ingredients given under roasting and powder.
3. Heat oil in a pan and fry the seasoning ingredients.
4. Stir in the onion slices and fry till tender.
5. Add tamarind juice, turmeric powder, asafetida, curry and coriander
leaves, salt, roasted powder, ground paste and the cooked dal. Mix the
cotents thoroughly and cook for 5 minutes.
6. Serve hot with snacks.
